SARACOTIA

O The trio Saracotia was formed in 2008 by musicians Rafael Marques (10-string mandolin), Rodrigo Samico (7-string guitar), and Márcio Silva (drums) after they first came together to accompany Italian singer Cristina Benvenutti. Born in Recife (Pernambuco, Northeast Brazil), the musicians draw from both local and international influences, resulting in an inventive and uniquely Brazilian sound.
Throughout its journey, the trio has explored the versatility of music from Pernambuco and Brazil, incorporating Frevo, Maracatu, Forró, Choro, Samba, and other popular styles. Their approach expands cultural and geographical boundaries, reinterpreting traditions through contemporary aesthetics.
The combination of the 7-string guitar, 10-string mandolin, and drums creates a distinctive contrapuntal fluidity. Their energy and musical lightness are evident, engaging audiences through their performances and storytelling.
Saracotia’s original instrumental repertoire is guided by diverse musical genres, heavily influenced by jazz improvisation. Over the course of their career, the trio has released two albums: Saracotia (2012) and A Vista do Ponto (2016), solidifying their place as a leading force in Brazilian instrumental music.
Having toured across Latin America and Europe, the group has refined its sound, deepening its acoustic essence and elevating the role of each instrument. Currently, their teaching and musical research are leading them toward new directions in composition and cultural exchange.
